The day that you left me here alone
I felt my young heart turn to stone
I never felt such a hurt this deep
Your death caused me so much grief
I just didn't think I'd ever smile
And I knew I'd cry for a long, long while
It hurts to know I watched you go
I didn't try to stop you though
You told me you were just so tired
And God was offering a life you admired
I was foolish to think I'd have you around
Until the stars in the sky came tumbling down
Your body is at rest now, your mind at ease
You'll never fight another disease
Going on without you, like you said I could
It killed me to lose you, but I knew I would
You tried to prepare me for what would come
My love for you made me pretend I was dumb
You're really gone and it's been a year
I'll always hold our memories so dear
