The Sparrows Sing

Dawn breaks in the distance.
Blades of grass embrace the dew.
Tulips spread wide their petals
as flowers instinctively do.

Gray clouds veil the sunshine.
Warmth evades the wind.
Voices inside me echo,
"His love he does rescind."

Thoughts of you torment me;
sorrow bludgeons my soul.
Left incomplete without you
I am but half, no longer whole.

Your words cleave my essence,
"Our love affair is through."
Condemned, my barren vessel
aches desperately for you.

Madness deadens my senses.
Tears flow from eyes that sting.
The breath within me falters,
while outside the sparrows sing.
