Pretend that you’re rich
And that you have a lot,
Whatever you have
Is the best that I’ve got.
Or pretend that you’re poor
And your lucks running out
You’re holding the faith
But you’re starting to doubt
Whatever the case
Have you ever looked back,
And saw the mistakes
Of yesterdays track?
Have you ever really wondered
What might be in store,
If you gather some courage
To open a new door?
Like that little old man
That sits by the way
Who begs for some money
But you pass him each day.
He’s a stupid, old drunk
Who’s wasted his life
He’s disgraced the good name
Of his children and wife.
But let’s just imagine
That you stopped for a sec
And made conversation
With the old drunken wreck.
You give a few bucks
With a friendly warm smile
And promise to come see him
Every once in a while.
You carry on your day
But in a new light
Because you’ve blessed someone special
And did something right.
Or, for example,
That lost, lonely teen
Who can’t stand to live
Because everyone’s so mean.
You see her every day
Just walking home from school
Her book bag held low
She knows she’s not cool
On your way home from work
You look at her face
It’s probably just an act
So you pick up your pace.
But what if that act
Just happened to be real
All your complaints about life
Now aren’t such a big deal.
So we switch things around
And you give her a chance
You say hello
And hold a warm stance.
She looks a little down
So you ask her what’s wrong
She starts to fill you in
About how she doesn’t belong.
You give her words of wisdom
To ease up her strife
You walk away without knowing...
You just saved her life.
Now all the mistakes
That you’ve made in the past
You want to undo
And undo them fast.
But you can’t change what’s been done
You made your choice.
You chose to be quiet
And not use your voice.
Now you want to do tomorrow
What you messed up yesterday
But there is still hope
Because yesterday’s tomorrow is today.
So draw your last straw
And use it with care
Because today’s tomorrow
Just might not be there.
