Turn Away

Your eyes plead with me...they beg,
you know you did wrong,
you knew, I can't believe you knew!
I will not meet your gaze
You will not break me down,
you will not see how much you hurt me.
But.
They meet,
the words shove at my lips...
"I forgive you, I love you"
but I swallow them,
it hurts,
New words appear,
"Get out"
the words have escaped
and they now hang dead in the air.
"But."
you reply.
Your hand brushes my arm.
How dare you touch me!
Your eyes fill with emotion, the deep
colors scare me.
I don't want you to leave
I love you too much for that.
But as you get up and leave,
I don't move,
I want to, I swear I want to
I want to tell you how much I love and need you,
how much I always have,
how much I always will,
but all I can do is
turn away.
