Window Of Retreat
By: Holly Hammet
Christmas Eve, Heavy snow,
Streets are lit by a warming glow.
It's frosty cold, Jack Frost is biting me so,
And I with no place to go.
At night I'd watch you from your window,
My hands pressed upon the glass,
You'd sometimes look my way, but then you let it pass.
I'd watch you and your family,
dine with Christmas joy,
Your family of mother, father, a little girl and two boys.
I'd stay until I was rosy pink,
my toes chilled in the frost,
Afraid to move, for if I did, this magic moment would be lost.
I remember when I was the girl,
The addition to the fun,
The girl that was your shining star,
The girl that was your number one.
I remember the laughter and idle chatter,
Sweet aromas dancing in the air,
That swept through the entire house,
Created by food, prepared with care.
I remember the stories of old times passed,
And all the movies your sister begged to show,
I remember all this fondly, and I wanted you know,
That I'll never forget these wonderful times,
I'll never let them go,
I'm hoping that now after you read this,
You'll see me looking through the window,
The window I think is neat,
The fun, exciting window,
My window of retreat.
