Secret Deception

Curled up,
Held within the safety of your arms,
We whispered and we laughed
About the future and the past,
Knowing that in one minute our lives could change.

The moment came,
And without a sound,
I walked away,
Heart aching,
Tears breaking,
Soul fading into the mist,
Leaving everything behind.

A little girl’s dreams forgotten,
Lost somewhere in the dust,
Yet, a woman’s heart yearns to scream:
Ask me to stay,
Don’t let me go.
Can’t you see I’m dying?

Curled up,
Your eyes telling me the stakes.
I look away,
For now is the time for now,
And the future can wait.
