barren world

A tree stands alone
It’s leafless limbs stretching toward a gray sky
In an unforgiving world
Where not a crow flies
Blood red moon beating down from above
Shadowing the world in a shade of crimson
Sorrow is all that is known here
In a time that stands still
Where no man lives
Where barren ground meets endless depths of ocean
Without a trace of life to see
Cloudless skies go on forever
Dark and foreboding
Bearing down on a world where time is forgotten
Snow falls no more
Nor rain to drench the dry land like tears
All is dried up and crippled
Like an old person left to die alone
This world is on the edge of the universe
Forgotten by others
And left to waiver away to nothing
Not even the stars shine here
Where the last tree stands alone.
