She Cries

She cries at night,
A thousand lonely tears.
To a picture of him,
about all of her fears.

"Why did they send you,
when our love is so true?
Why are you fighting,
do you have a clue?"

The ARMY sent him away
that brisk fall day,
to a land made of sand,
a year deployed at hand.

She cries at night,
A thousand lonely tears.
Looks up to the stars,
wishing him near.

"Can you see what I see?
Do you even still care?
Why haven't you called?
This just isn't fair."

Longing to hold him,
calling his name.
When he comes home,
will things be the same?

The telephone rings,
a voice on the line.
She gasps for her breath,
she caught it in time.

"Hello love, how are you?
I cried tonight,
A thousand lonely tears,
I'm coming home soon,
I love you dear."

She cries tonight,
A thousand happy tears.
To a picture of him,
forgetting her fears.
