My Best Friend

I went out for a walk
She walked next to me
Her blonde hair streaming
We stayed outside for hours
Never saying a word

Both of us were happy
Just being together
On a walk by ourselves
No one else around
No one to bother us

We found a nearby bench
Both of us sat down
Just taking in the surroundings
A bed of roses in front of us
I got up hastily
And picked a red one for her

She seemed to thank me
Yet neither of us said a word
Both of us taking it all in quietly
We were both gazing
Together, alone

I took her back home
Took off my shoes
She didn't bother
Her feet were bare, anyway
We started walking forward

We walked into the living room
Both of us sat down
I gave her a massage
She was serene and peaceful
Just like it was her first time with me

I ran my fingers through her hair
Kissed her on the forehead
She kissed me on the cheek
I sprawled on the rug
She came near and did the same

Age didn't matter to either of us
Just because I was 10 years older
Didn't mean she loved me any less
She's a man's best friend
My loving, caring dog
